The Equinosis Lameness Investigator

Posted 22nd February 2017

We are very excited to announce our most recent addition to our diagnostic services – a state of the art Lameness Locator® by Equinosis®. This cutting edge diagnostic tool is based on extensive research and is currently used by more than 200 practices and 50 universities around the world.

It can be used on all types of horses and ponies and does not interfere with our routine lameness examination such as trotting in a straight line, lunging and ridden evaluations. It can be performed on both hard and soft surfaces which makes it perfect for our mobile practice as we can bring it to you.

How does it work?

The lameness locator detects and quantifies body movement irregularity in a horse using small, wireless, body-mounted inertial sensors and a handheld tablet PC.

The setup of the sensors is quick, easy and non invasive.

The sensors compute precise measurements the human eye can’t see, tracking head and torso movement to less than one millimetre at 100 metres.

The data is transmitted wirelessly in real time and analyzed in seconds on the PC. The information indicates the affected limb or limbs, the severity of the lameness and the timing of peak pain in the stride of each limb. This can be especially useful when diagnosing a mild lameness. We are already seeing fantastic results!
